POEM: You have wings!

by Stacey on August 30, 2009

You were born with potential

You were born with goodness and trust

You were born with ideals and dreams

You were born with greatness

You were born with wings

You are not meant for crawling so don’t

You have wings… Learn to use them and fly!

~Rumi

Imagine if you were living to your potential, realizing your dreams, living a fulfilling and joyful life, and being as great as you can be. Perhaps you are. But if you’re not, like many people, you can! Assess your life, i.e. relationships, health, career, spirituality, finances, etc. and see where you might be crawling where you could be flying!

Here are ten ways to take FLIGHT!

  1. Volunteer with an organization whose mission lights you up.
  2. Free yourself from any emotional prisons you may be in. You’ll know if you’re in one if you feel bad more than you feel good.
  3. Forgive someone. Bring yourself to make amends with the person who hurt you without hurting them. Remember forgiveness doesn’t mean you’re condoning the behavior, it means that you are placing your well-being, your peacefulness and happiness as a priority.
  4. Write a personal mission statement. At the end of your life, what would you like people to say about you? What did you accomplish/experience that you would consider made your life a success? Who were you as a person? Create a mission statement based on these questions and that rings true for you. Now post it somewhere so that you can be reminded of it daily.
  5. Tell someone you love them.
  6. Change one bad habit. For 21 days (the amount of days it takes according to psychologists to break a habit) stop a self-destructive behavior and replace it with a good one.
  7. Fulfill a lifelong passion. Play the guitar. Go to Italy. Make a career change to something more suitable for you. Find the love of your life. Take art classes. Run that marathon. Whatever it is. Don’t wait! Not one more minute.
  8. Learn the art of listening. Really listen to people. Try it on for one day, where you really hear what people are saying such as what their concerns are, how they are feeling, what they may be trying to tell you. Put your self-interests aside, and you will be amazed at how much you learn.
  9. Practice self-acceptance by reciting this daily: “I love and accept myself exactly as I am, and who I am is good enough.”
  10. Lighten up! Have some fun, laugh out loud, stop worrying so much, and don’t take life too seriously because, after all, we’re much harder on ourselves than anyone would ever be.

You were born to be GREAT…
