A bullet left a three-year-old girl with a severed spine.  Now confined to a wheelchair, this little girl’s incredible act of bravery and forgiveness towards the man who shot her shocked everyone in the courtroom.

Ismaili (Aga khani) Father Forgives his Son’s Killer

Azim Khamisa’s 20-year-old son Tariq was murdered while delivering pizzas in January 1995 by Tony Hicks, a 14-year-old gang member.  A father faced with an unbearable and senseless loss, managed to not only forgive the boy who killed his son, but choose a powerful path of forgiveness and compassion leading to the establishment of the Tariq Khamisa Foundation (www.TKF.org) and the subsequent forgiveness movement which has reached millions.

Rose Mapendo

After soldiers forced her to listen to the torture and execution of her husband, Rose Mapendo escaped from a Congolese death camp with her children in 1998.  She fled to the U.S. with the help of human rights activist Sasha Chanoff and became the spokesperson for Mapendo International, a nonprofit humanitarian organization that works to rescue and protect other African refugees who have been affected by war and conflict. This short film by fbi productions, profiling her story, premiered at the Fifth Anniversary Volvo for life Awards ceremony in New York in April 2007.
