About Us
Welcome Friends!
We are pleased to welcome you to Virtues for Life, a website dedicated to inspiring and coaching people in the daily practice of virtues so that they can achieve their personal best and, consequently, lead more extraordinary lives. We can learn from people who have practiced a virtue to overcome incredible odds, fear and self-doubt and go on to achieve great success. With this intention, we hope to create a global consciousness in the difference the practice of virtues can make in everyday life.
Message from the Founder
I became interested in virtues over 10 years ago when I first heard about Dr. Benjamin Carson, now a world-renowned neurosurgeon. Born in Detroit, Michigan, Ben Carson came from a single parent home, lived in dire poverty, had a bad temper, low self-esteem, and struggled with poor grades. His childhood dream was to become a doctor and his circumstances seemed insurmountable in achieving that goal. But he recognized at a very young age the importance of working hard, doing his best always, and making the right choices in life.
For nearly a quarter of a century, Dr. Carson has been the director of pediatric neurosurgery at Johns Hopkins Children’s Center in Baltimore, MD. One of Dr. Carson’s career highlights include the 22-hour separation of Siamese twins, the first successful operation of twins joined at the back of the head. He has received hundreds of distinguished awards and, in 2008, received America’s highest civilian honor, the Presidential Medal of Freedom, for his “skills as a surgeon, high moral standards, and dedication to helping others.”
A Man of Excellence
Dr. Carson overcame many obstacles and practiced countless virtues to obtain his extraordinary success, but if I were to pick a single virtue that his life emulates, it would be excellence. He always did the best he could no matter what the endeavor. He learned about striving for excellence from his mother who consistently encouraged and challenged him and his brother to better themselves through education and hard work.
I was so inspired with Dr. Carson’s life story and so many others, famous and not so famous, who have practiced a virtue such as kindness, perseverance, forgiveness, and hope to achieve great personal success that I developed a website dedicated to these stories.

Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our Light, not our Darkness, that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous? Actually, who are you NOT to be? ~Marianne Williamson
